Fighting at Verdun continues. Today the Germans attack all along the line on both the east and west banks of the Meuse. On the west bank their target remains the hill known as the Mort Homme. The attack here is commanded by none other than Eugen von Falkenhayn, elder brother of Erich von Falkenhayn, chief of staff of the German army. The German assault bring them on the Mort Homme’s slopes but the summit remains firmly in French hands. Elsewhere the Germans test the French severely but fail to break through. Casualties are ruinous.
