18/2/1916 Italy attacks Laibach

The harsh winter prevents the Italians or Austro-Hungarians launching major military operations along the Isonzo front. In the air though matters are different. Both sides are experimenting with aerial attacks on each other’s cities. Austro-Hungarian bombers attacked Milan on the 14th of February. Now Italian heavy bombers retaliate, dropping their own bombs on the Austrian town of Laibach.

Casualties on the ground in both attacks are relatively light. However, they are a reminder that the world is entering a new age of warfare, one where civilians far away from the frontline are no longer safe from the attentions of the enemy.
