The last Russian forts at Przemysl are taken by the Austro-Hungarians and Germans. The Galician fortress city is now entirely back in the hands of the Habsburgs. But it is a bittersweet victory. The Austro-Hungarians are only too aware that Przemysl has not been recovered by their own force of arms, but as a result of Germany’s successes in the Gorlice-Tarnów offensive. Austria-Hungary is clearly the junior partner in this military partnership.
