13/5/1915 Lusitania sinking: the Americans protest

Opinion in the United States of America has been outraged by Germany’s sinking of the Lusitania. The loss of 128 American citizens travelling on a civilian vessel has shocked and angered the country. President Woodrow Wilson feels obliged to protest to the German authorities. He has his Secretary of State, William Jennings Bryan, send a stern note to Berlin, protesting at the sinking of the Lusitania and also other incidents involving American ships or citizens. Germany is urged strongly to abandon its U-boat war against civilian vessels.
