5/5/1915 Ypres: Hill 60 recaptured

A few weeks ago the British took Hill 60 to the south of Ypres and then held it in the face of furious German counter-attacks. But now the Germans attack again while the Allies’ attention is on the northern part of the Ypres salient. Their attack is preceded by another poison gas attack. The Germans take the Hill. The British counter-attack but they cannot dislodge the Germans.

From the summit of the Hill, the Germans can once more look down to what is left of the town of Ypres.
