7/10/1914 Japan seizes Yap, which is an island in the Pacific

Germany’s colonial possessions in the Pacific make for tempting targets. Australian and New Zealand have already helped themselves to some and now Japan starts to gobble up some tasty morsels. Japanese ships arrive today in Yap, one of the Caroline Islands. Now the Japanese navy is set to seize all of the Caroline, Marshall and Mariana Islands, which will leave it in a strong position at the south western edge of the ocean.
