16/7/1914 Poincaré and Viviani depart for St. Petersburg

President Raymond Poincaré of France departs by ship from Dunkirk on a state visit to Russia. With him is René Viviani, premier and foreign minister. Poincaré is keen to use the occasion to strengthen the Franco-Russian alliance.

While they are in transit they will be largely incommunicado.
