16/7/1914 De Bunsen reports on Austro-Hungarian plans

British ambassador De Bunsen reports home from Vienna on his conversation with Lützow on Austria-Hungary’s plans for a showdown with Serbia. His report does not attract any great attention in London.

De Bunsen also meets Nikolai Shebeko, Russia’s ambassador to Austria-Hungary. De Bunsen tells Shebeko what he has learned from Lützow. The Russian realises immediately the significance of what he is hearing and reports it back to St. Petersburg.
